Awesome report! What a great experience for you. My husband has climbed Long's with our boys, but he wasn't your Dad's age! Who knows, maybe they'll have the opportunity again. Thanks so much for sharing your story!

Mr. Downs - What a most heartwarming trip report that is!! Are you an English teacher questionmark.gif questionmark.gif An author perhaps questionmark.gif questionmark.gif read.gif Well, you should be! I really, really enjoyed that. Special times with family. I hope my kids take me hiking when I "gracefully age." I think I am going to have them read this trip report. thinkerg.gif

Regarding your father working as the service manager at an automotive dealer - - I must tell you this. whisper.gif At the end of our vacation this year, there was this luggage problem at the airport. It was 1:00 a.m. sleep3.gif at Detroit Metro Airport and our plane load of people had already been waiting one hour for our luggage, and there was no sign of it showing soon. Many people were yelling and using some really uncalled for foul obscenities cussing.gif at the airport luggage people. My husband turned to me and said, "I think the only job worse than this is being a service manager at a car dealership." ahhhhh.gif Honestly, I had to laugh when you described his job. We even all discussed it for a while which job was worse. gathering.gif

Thanks for taking the time to share this special memory. Wishing you and your father many more miles of hiking together!!!

Anne

Final “notion” dispelled. Somehow while you are up on the summit the park service quadruples the length of the trail from the Keyhole to the trailhead. I don’t know how they do it; I just know that they do it. It’s easy for them to get away with. You’ve walked that section in the dark on the way up so there’s no way you can prove they changed anything. You probably think I’m crazy, but if you’ve done this climb, you know it’s true.

I know what you are saying. I hiked longs peak with aaron just a few weeks ago. i only made it to the top of the trough but was happy I made it there. My legs started to cramp up on me and I did not want to push my luck. But man the hike down the mountian seemed like it took forever. We started at about 1:30am and aaron and some friends made it to the top around 9:30am. thanks for the great trip report it was like I was on the hike agian.

Thanks Druw!

Gee - now I see why it took you so long to post your longs peak report smile1.gif

That may have been the coolest thing I've ever read.

My dad went with my wife and I, but he only decided to do that on the day before the hike. He knew he had no chance to make the top, but I was happy he got to experience a lot of the hike - I was impressed that he made the keyhole.

I wish I would have hiked on Wednesday instead of Thursday just to meet you guys. Unfortunately I would have been too tired on Wednesday....I'm not nearly in as good a shape as your dad smile1.gif

That is so true. I noticed that myself.

Great report Drew, loved it!
