So I'm not nearly as active on these boards as most of you, but we all share a lot in common. One thing that I'm noticing is that Ed has a lot of friends and he is actually one of the most gracious and generous individuals I have ever meet. Each time I come on the board I see that someone was lucky enough to spend time with Ed and get into the backcountry in a way that most of us don't get to see. My family is one of the lucky ones and we have had some great and special experiences that we wouldn't have had if it wasn't for him. Since Ed is so giving of his time and knowledge I would like to try and give a little bit back to him by starting a thread that highlights what Ed has shared with us all. So post your favorite pictures and a brief description in this thread from spending time with Ed.

Lets see if we can turn this into the longest thread the board has ever seen.

Thanks,

Mike

This is a picture of our first tour with Ed to the West Glacial Knob. It was a great day (my birthday) and I'll remember that day for the rest of my life.

Here is a picture during lunch that included some stories told by Ed. He guided us to a special spot that he has been frequenting for a long time, showed us his rout and let us to stay there for a quick but very nice over-nighter.

Yep, this could turn into a loooong thread. Great idea!

As a think about it, Ed's been part of my yearly rituals for a few years now.
Here's some random memories of a few trips with Ed....

Ed lead me to my first Knob summit.

Heading towards Andrews Glacier. What a great day!

Just this June, Ed and I went up the West Knob and then over to The Loch. Couldn't see much of anything all day and we were both pretty cold and wet, but the conversation and storytelling made it well worthwhile.

Igloo Ed shares and leads with distinction. I'm honored and proud to be able to call him "friend".

I've never met Ed, I may never have the good fortune to do so, but I've read enough about him that I have nothing but respect, admiration and a touch of awe. He can certainly add me to his list of friends.

The one hike I've done with Ed so far was fantastic, but I took no pictures -- I left my camera at the cabin. So, Ed was not only guide extraordinaire, but he had to be chief cameraman. I hope to have pics after my September trip and hike with Ed.

I would like to consider Ed my friend. I was lucky to meet him at a Forum GTG and Erik took a picture of us sharing hot dogs. I can't find the photo, maybe Erik can post it for me. Regardless, it was very much my pleasure to meet him.

I seem to mostly have photos of Ed's backside...! I'm always dragging behind him & when we do stop, I'm so busy trying to catch my breath I can't get the camera out.
I'll need to dig through Sandy's photos.

Ed truly is one special guy. Sharing areas of the park that most of us would not venture to on our own. The time, energy and patience he devotes to us RMNP lovers is beyond words. Yes I consider Ed a friend although he might think "with friends like her, I don't need no stinkin' enemies" :jester:

I am in awe of Ed's hiking, but I'm a hiking wimp who likes to go alone so I don't slow anyone down, so all I can say is that I have dined with Ed a few times, including the very first time he joined in on a Forums GTG in 2007 at Sprague Lake (that's the one Allie is referring to, also).

Maybe someday I will get brave and try to keep up, or visit him in an igloo on a STOMP.

YES, I am a friend of Ed's!! Long may he lead!

In all seriousness, this is exactly the way I feel as well. That's not to say that I wouldn't welcome the chance to hike with him should the opportunity arise. Far from it. I'm just afraid I'd be nothing more than a 150-pound anchor. Maybe that's why he likes to hike with two poles. One for stability and one for prodding the stragglers up the hill.

Although, if Ed has the patience to put up with a slow, clumsy, unprepared doofus like myself, then he deserves more respect than one could possibly imagine. :peace:

Am I a friend of Ed's??? Ya sure, you bet'cha!!! He's responsible for getting me to places I thought I'd NEVER see!

LOL!!!!!

Seriously, I've been VERY fortunate to experience MANY adventures with Ed. Not only is Ed a really nice guy, but he's also VERY knowledgeable about the park (he's tried many times to pass some of that knowledge on to me....I just have a hard time soaking it all in.). I'm so glad that Ed's let me tag along with him on so many amazing adventures....what a patient man! I've got a ton of pics, but it's gonna take me a while to pic out some of my favorites.

I never knew where I'd end up, but I knew if I just kept following Ed I'd end up someplace really beautiful. This is Ed leading me down an slippery slope....(oh ya, he's led me down quite a few of those!!! lol)
