Two weeks ago, a badger encountered my wife and my golden retriever during their evening walk. Helen didn't appreciate the face-to-face meeting. I found this guy out and about today on a rainy afternoon in the neighborhood. Thursday, July 29, 2010.

Very Nice !

I've never seen one in RMNP, lots in and around North Park, but none in these parts.

Oh, my! A little too close for me. Are they agressive towards humans/animals? Or would they get away as fast as possible?

RMNP has a LOT of badgers. When the ground cover is more than knee-high, they can move through a meadow unseen by humans. Badgers are not aggressive towards humans or dogs, but they will defend themselves.

Cool ! Where is a good place around on the E side to see them ?

My closest encounter with a Badger was fishing a small pond behind Rabbit Ears and having the darn thing walk right up and try to drag off my creel full of Brookies that was cooling in the stream 3' away from me.

South facing slopes in Upper Beaver Meadows is your highest odds place to catch a glimpse of the badgers.

Excellent shot
Looks like he needs a blow dryer.

I also like the look on his face.

Nice Photo!
We have lots of them here, they absolutely love no-til farming and dig holes everywhere in those fields.

Nice looking badger!

Richard, I think your neighborhood rivals the park when it comes to wildlife sightings.

Yes, that's for sure. My theory is that when the summer peak in park visitors occurs, some of the wild animals flee to the areas just outside the park boundaries. I don't mind.

I learn so much from your pictures and reports.
When our kids were young we subsribed to Ranger Rick and Zoobooks your photos remind so much of those publications.
I love it!
