Bear Lake SNOTEL station went from 21" of snow to 0 in less than a week, releasing 7.8" of water !

Joe Wright station just N of the Park Boundary went from 47" of snow down to 17" in 7 days.

No wonder we're flooding.

A very unique winter and spring. The core temps of the snowfields had to have been warmer than ever all winter, then we had the warm spring storms that shaded the sun but added even more warm snow to the mix. The overcast from the storms lasted way into spring.
In all the years I've skied (way back machine), we were never able to ski to Haiyaha on Memorial Day, but this year a person could have.
I think the river is cresting now because most of the snow area is already melted to the ground.

Would it be better for Colorado, or RMNP, if the snowpack were slower to melt off?

YES

Beyond flooding issues, the sooner the snow melts off, the sooner fuels dry out, leading to summer fire conditions/restrictions.
