BigAl and I are planning "The Death Loop," and the only part we are unsure of is how the terrain is from Boulder/Grand Pass to Andrews Peak without having to drop down into the East Inlet drainage? So, we are wanting to stay above tree line, but neither of us recall how that terrain is. On the map, it looks fine, but we both remember some cliff bands being there and want to make sure it will be easy to negotiate, as we'll most likely be doing this section during the middle of the night.

Anyone have any pics or first hand experience of this section of tundra??

Thanks!

We hiked from the BG pass to into the east inlet staying above treeline but probably lower than you wanted to go. I have some pics available now and will dig though some of the other non-processed pics on another PC.

Here is a few to start:

I'll look for more like #6 above. Here are some from above that didn't post correctly:

We will be... it's not until Julyish... so we have time to plan. We'll do a recon trip for this section of the Death Loop so we know exactly where we're going...

Wow! The pictures in this thread are really gorgeous. Lake Catherine looks like it could be in the Canadian Rockies.

The basin area south of Point 12,241 (aka Ptarmigan's Beak) is my favorite area of the park. It's an enormous landscape threaded with small streams, marshy green tundra, and peppered with granite. The photo doesn't do Lake Catherine justice. She was beautiful.

If they told you, they'd have to kill you.
