Glad the Ladies are okay, what a punk. Why can't some of us come across an idiot like this when it happens? :fishslap: (wishful thinking)

Yea, Kristin, be careful! Do you have a whistle or mace, or something?

I think Rhonda and I will be okay. I'll beat the crap out of him with my tripod and then Rhonda will shoot him. He'll be sorry. LOL

No, he won't be around if Rhonda shoots him. :roflmao:

Seriously, it is sad you can't even go hiking without worrying about some idiot lurking about. Jen and Rhonda be careful out there!!

Jen...you always get Hector and Iceberg confused. Maybe it will clear up after you meet them both.

I reluctantly told gsmatch about this. (She only hikes to indulge my passion for it.) I told her, though, that I had a plan. She should bring her tennis racket and a few cans of balls in case we were attacked. She replied that it wouldn't be the tennis balls she would be whacking. :o

Awww, thanks Lora!

I do have to agree with Rhonda about feeling safer inside a national park/fee area, that was my thought as well.

Another good reason to carry bear spray. Hiking sticks are better than nothing, but it was too bad he was able to slash one of those poor ladies before they drove him off. The pepper spray would establish a zone of personal safety. Plus, I suspect it would help identify him if caught.

Be careful with pepper spray, it usually does as much damage to the victim as it does to the attacker. Bear spray is even more powerful, but can be used from a greater distance. If you have that much distance, I would run instead. These dangers are the best motivator for me to stay in shape, so I can outrun an attacker and not look like an easy target. Have any of you heard about Canemasters? I guess it's an all ages self-defense and exercise course. I guess those canes can do serious damage. Maybe you could substitute your hiking stick instead. Use whatever you can find to defend yourself. I bet a lot of women will be packing heat in the park after it's legal in February 2010.

Looks like they caught the alleged perp. :hifive: I just happened to notice a news article saying that his request for lower bail had been denied. Here's the story.
