I've gone horseback riding at Sombrero Stables on the east side of Estes Park several times and have really enjoyed each ride. I even did the breakfast ride once.....very cool!!! The only other place I tried once was the stable just after the visitor's center to RMNP on Hwy 34. Can't remember the name, but didn't enjoy it as much and wouldn't go there again.

My daughter and I went 2 weeks ago at the HI-Country Stables in Moraine Park. It was 25.00 an hour for each of us.
We went on the 2 hour ride. It was pretty nice. We saw 2 herds of elk which was a treat. We had 2 really nice guides in our group of about 12. The horses seem to almost be on auto pilot as far as where to go.

WOW!! That's a lot cheaper than Sombrero Stables! I've seen horseback riding in that area before and wondered where you sign up.....where do ya??? I think I might have to check 'em out.

Hi-Country Stables says it is located in the park during the summer months.....phone #'s Moraine Park 970-586-2327 or Glacier creek 970-586-3244

I'm going to check them out too.

I'm interested in this thread, too, as Rhonda and I are hoping to take a horsey ride this fall.

Yes, that's the one. I did have to make a reservation but I was able to call at 8:00 am and get in at 10:30. Also, they said I could cancel last minute if it rained. The weather was threatening and could go either way and I didn't want to be locked in if it was pouring. It's something my daughter always wanted to do so I was glad we could. I can post some pictures eventually. The elk pictures did not turn out very well because good ol' Biscuit wouldn't come to a complete stop just so I could photograph the elk.
Enjoy!

I hope you know I meant 25.00 per person per hour, so it was 100.00 for the two of us for the 2 hour ride.

Just so you know, Sombrero Stables manages the horse concessions near Glacier Creek/Sprague Lake and Moraine Park campgrounds. This is their website with information. http://www.sombrero.com/ We have also used Jackson Stables at the Y of the Rockies. http://www.jacksonstables.com/ Both places offered nice experiences and calm horses. The Sombrero rides were always gentle strolls while there was some trotting on the ride at Jackson Stables. I think your choice will really come down to the area you want to ride in as to who you choose. The web sites have descriptions of the rides that will help you decide.
