We have eaten here several times in the past, the most recent two years ago until Saturday, August 1. We were celebrating our 32nd anniversary so we were going "whole hog" and didn't skimp on budget. The interior is "old" Estes Park, vintage mountain decor. The old photographs of the area on the walls are interesting. There were four in our party and we started by ordering two appetizers to split - the elk kabob & Baked Berry Brie - which was baked in puff pastry. Both were excellent and came with a yummy and generous assortment of fresh fruit on the plate. The elk chunks on the kabob were marinated and slightly spicy with veggies & mushrooms. The brie was smooth and melty, complimented by the crunch of the pastry and the fresh fruit. We all liked them both. I wouldn't hesitate to order the brie as a dessert, as I don't like really sweet desserts. The dinners we ordered came with pretty large salads, the blue cheese and ranch dressings were homemade and marvelous. I had the raspberry vinegrette which was mostly crushed red raspberries, but lacked vinegar "punch" and was not my favorite. Two of our party ordered the house specialty which was a filet with blue cheese and balsamic vinegar - both of them were enthusiastic in their praise and the taste I had of it was great. I had the strip steak with green & black peppercorns and it was delicious, really tender for a strip steak. The mashed potatoes that came with it were seasoned well and creamy and the sauteed veggies were perfect - which isn't easy to do in a restaurant. My son ordered a special, buffalo steak oscar and said the steak was really good. We all liked the bread which came with olive oil/Parmesan and high quality butter. Needless to say, we were way too full for dessert, although the tray looked yummy. We favor appetizers over desserts, ourselves. We returned to our campsite at Moraine Park and an evening campfire. We highly recommend Twin Owls for a splurge dinner or special occasion. They're just as good as ever.
