+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 03:54 PM) What's really creepy is wearing 'em on your toes. Not that John does....
+zzcoop  : (30 July 2010 - 03:13 PM) I really didn't expect you to do it at McDonald's though. That was weird.
+John  : (30 July 2010 - 03:09 PM) I liked to stick Bugles Corn Chips on the tips of all my fingers to give the look that I had claws.
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 03:02 PM) I had a jelly bean stuck in my ear once. It was delicious.
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 03:02 PM) That counts for A LOT!!!
+Wyldfyre63  : (30 July 2010 - 02:54 PM) I shoved a small pink pencil erasure up my nose when I was little, does that count for anything?
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:35 PM) Did you bring the Elmers??????
+Scrapinator  : (30 July 2010 - 02:23 PM) I do miss some interesting discussions when I am gone for a while :smile1:
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:23 PM) That was the Southwest Ranch flavored.
+zzcoop  : (30 July 2010 - 02:22 PM) I always thought Elmer's Glue-All had a certain "tangy zip" to it.
+mistylady  : (30 July 2010 - 02:21 PM) I had a hard time keeping paste in the classroom. My kids would sneak bites when they thought I wasn't looking. Finally was able to get glue sticks. Took all the fun out of pasting. I remember eating paste when I was little, too.
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:20 PM) Yes.
+zzcoop  : (30 July 2010 - 02:17 PM) I did the glue hands thing too! I never ate Elmer's though. But I was VERY tempted. It smells just like Miracle Whip. Wait, does that mean…?
Rhonda  : (30 July 2010 - 02:12 PM) Well, I was also a dweeb, so they can't blame the pot in my case
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:07 PM) I think 95% of folks our age partook...say...that could explain a few things. And they blamed the pot!
Rhonda  : (30 July 2010 - 02:06 PM) No wonder I turned out so weird.
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:06 PM) It's a wonder what hasn't been erased hasn't stuck together.
Rhonda  : (30 July 2010 - 02:05 PM) I remember the glue on the hands, too. I think I ate that also. It's a wonder I lived through childhood.
Rhonda  : (30 July 2010 - 02:05 PM) The teacher asked me what in the world I had been eating, and I said, "My eraser."
+Bill 007  : (30 July 2010 - 02:04 PM) We used to smear Elmer's glue on our hands, let it dry, then peel it off. I miss those days! Not the eraser eating, but everything else.

Posted ImageAt 1:30 p.m. today, August 8, 2009, the Grand County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call and passed the information on to Rocky Mountain National Park dispatch. A 32 year old male, hometown unknown, had a 20 foot tumbling, sliding fall near the summit of Mount Ida. He suffered a broken leg and cuts and bruises. Two rangers reached the patient at 5:25 p.m. He is located a few hundred feet below the ridgeline of Mount Ida in loose rock and scree. A litter team of 7 park rangers headed to the area but were turned back because of nightfall. Two rangers will stay with the injured man overnight. Rangers will assess the situation at first light tomorrow morning and determine whether the man will be carried by a litter to the summit and flown out or carried by a litter to the trailhead. Both scenarios will require a technical litter carry-out for part of the rescue.

Mount Ida (12,880 ft.) is located 4.5 miles from the Milner Pass Trailhead off of Trail Ridge Road. The elevation gain from the trailhead is 2,130 feet.

Update: 11pm MDT - Five rangers and a hiker friend of injured man will be staying overnight near summit of Mt. Ida

**Update - 12/10/2009 - Larimer County Search and Rescue was also in volved in this rescue. Unfortunately, many times LCSAR is not credited for their SAR work in RMNP. Thanks to Climberszen for the correction regarding credit due to LCSAR!! :handshake: **

    Update:

This morning, Sunday, August 9, a seven member litter team, consisting of park staff assisted by Rocky Mountain Rescue, and two park medics, began hiking toward the group who had spent last night below the summit of Mount Ida. The litter team reached the injured man at 9:20 a.m. The group is setting up a low angle technical rescue to bring the patient 200 feet up toward the summit of Mount Ida to a possible helicopter landing zone. A medical helicopter from St. Anthony’s Hospital is on standby. If it is unsafe to land a helicopter due to location and/or weather conditions, then
the patient will be carried out on the litter to the trailhead.

The 32 year old injured man was with a hiking group of eleven people based out of Denver. Their intent was not to summit Mount Ida, but to descend in to the Gorge Lakes area, which is a steep descent. The accident occurred during the descent. The man is an Indian National living in Lakewood. His name will be released after family members are reached.

That's sad and strange. We had planned to do the Gorge Lakes today, but Ed wore us out, so we did Sundance Mountain instead.

The wind has been terrible these last three days, and while we were freezing on the Sundance trail, I was glad we weren't trying the Gorge Lakes today. Now I'm even more glad. Thanks for wiping us out, Ed.

Don't worry, iceberg. We'll try not to hold you back tomorrow.

Updated first post to make a correction. The correction being to credit Larimer County Search and Rescue for their part in this particular rescue and to mention that they frequently do not get the credit (in print such as this) they deserve in RMNP search and rescue operations.

    Thank you LCSAR!!
