Is there anywhere within Estes park that I can buy a pay as you go sim card for a cell phone and buy some credit. Which service provider works best in the park. Would like to carry a cell phone for emergencies.

I'm going to piggyback a related question onto this. I'm seriously considering changing service providers when I buy my next phone. While I certainly want one that's going to have excellent service where I live. I'm also curious as to what works best in the park. Recommendations, anyone?

I have Sprint and have not been able to get a signal at the Moraine Park campground. I have not tried my phone at other locations in the park though.

We're with Verizon, and it's spotty. At McGregor we caught reception right outside where you stayed for the Stomp. A few feet either direction and we would lose signal. We would be able to get reception from TRR once we got above tree line.
When we summited Ypsilon a few years ago their was a guy up there using his phone. Never thought to ask who his provider was.

In case anybody wants to know about AT&T, I can get service from anywhere in town and had no problem at McGregor but got nothing in the park, not every above treeline.

Coverage may also depend on the model phone you have (mine's a Motorola) also...I have AT&T and spent 7 nights in Moraine Park campground and had coverage the entire time. My wife's Motorola phone with Verizon had no coverage at the campground.
The antenna technology can be better in some phone models when compared to other phones, kinda like the GPS models that receive no signal when in thick woods and the Garmin 60cx which seems to be able to pick up satellites everywhere.
Also had AT&T coverage at the Alpine Visitor Center and along parts of Trail Ridge Road on the east side (albeit somewhat limited and spotty).
