I will be taking my grand-daughters to Estes Park for the first time soon! We are open for any and all suggestions, but they have saved up some shopping money, so if your kids have some favorite places to shop for souveniers, please share! Thanks much for your ideas...

There is a toy shop on the upper end of the main drag in downtown Estes Park. My kids liked spending their money on go karts more than anything else!

T-shirts, go karts, putt putt golf, and polished rocks seem to be our little ones favorite purchases.

Donuts from the Donut Haus. They don't last long but they're good while you've got 'em.

My daughter would also say that a "Free Game" certificate from Tiny Town mini-golf is the best thing to have as you dream of coming back for the next trip. They don't shop there but do enjoy going to the "Glassworks Studio and Gallery" to see the artist's make paperweights and vases. It is fun to watch them work the glass as they talk about what they are doing and the kid's also get a free souvenir (glass disc) from the glassblowers. WARNING: This store can make parents nervous due to all of the glass around but keep the kids by the seating area and everything should be fine. I have seen a young one accidentally break something in the store and the staff are actually very cool about it. They know it can happen and don't make a scene, just clean up the remains and go on with Life. As long as the kids aren't running around unattended everything should be ok.

The candy stores, the T-Shirt shops, the candy stores, the book stores, the candy shops...
I can't remember the names of every shop, but if you park near Elkhorn and start walking in any direction, you'll find something neat every 2 shops or so. I just went for taffy and T-shirts (only place I can find Bear Whiz t-shirts), but my daughter brought back rocks and earrings and books and t-shirts and rock candy.
BTW...why can't you get great salt water taffy anywhere else but Estes Park, Atlantic City, and Branson?

John, the pic of your kids eating their doughnuts is so cute! We all love the donut haus too! Judging by the long lines, everyone else has discovered them too! Becky, I think my kids will love looking at the rocks too, is there a certain place that is best to go for that? One of them has talked about finding a cedar box like I had when I was little that I got out there, and she will probably want to put things like that in it. I am getting so excited for our trip! I love Estes Park and the air, the scenery, all of it so much. That is one reason it is so much fun to check in here, to listen to others who know how I feel about it, and I learn more every time I listen in! Thanks again everybody.

My niece and nephew loved the toy shop. I think there was drool all over the car window when we drove by the first time!

If you want to avoid the traffic in town, you can check out the Trail Ridge Store located at the Fall River Visitor's Center. They have a nice selection of t-shirts, sweatshirts, toys, puzzles, books, games and souvenirs.

Here's their website.

Princess Zoom likes to stop at the Ore Cart and buy a Geode that the store breaks open for her with a chain thingy. The most important decision for her on every vacation is to pick out that rock. She has a whole display of them.

I stand corrected, Estes Ark is an annual stop on the shopping trip for the kids.

I have no children, but you wouldn't know it by the list I am about to give you. rolleyes.gif These are a few of my favorite places to look around and have fun that are kid friendly:

1. Estes Ark- Giant wooden boat on the right side, just as you come into Estes Park. It is 3 levels of every stuffed animal you can imagine.
2. Gepetto's Toy Shop on Elkhorn Ave, left side of the street as you are heading towards RMNP.
3. Nature's Own on Elkhorn Ave, right side of the street as you are heading towards RMNP. This store has a wide variety of nature oriented toys, games, books, etc.
4. The old fashioned candy store on Elkhorn Ave, left side of the street
5. Macdonald's Book Shop, left side of the street, has a great kid's section of books.

Have fun!!

You have to carefully supervise kids there, but every time my kids go downtown they head into the glass shop on West Elkhorn for a free paper weight. Rebecca has dozens of them.

I was not aware of this. What is the name of this shop?
