Plunged into a monochrome world. Used my snow shovel three times, today. 4WD was not enough to always overcome the rolling resistance of 36" of snow. The snow continues tonight, as heavy, as ever. Occasionally, mini-avalanches slide off the Ponderosa Pines above and around our house. Sounds just like thunder, or a real avalanche. or a bear jumping up and down on the shingles. More photos tomorrow, under better light, I hope.

Just heard from Lori that the power went out about 3:30 this morning. She has taken lots of pictures of the snow, but won't be able to post them since the power is out. Hopefully it isn't out too long - it's already getting cold in the house and the lizards aren't very happy about it. rolleyes.gif She also told me that the snow is so deep that Haley (our Golden Retriever) refuses to go outside to potty and has been holding it since yesterday evening. laugh.gif

Oh my! I'm sure Lori and the girls are bundled...hmm how to keep the lizards warm? They could do what my brothers used to do to snakes to get them into the house. Just tuck in their shirts and put the critters inside. YIKES!

I hope the power comes on soon for them. Thanks for the update, BigAl.

BigAl, is it still snowing?

I just captured this from the Glacier Basin webcam. Pretty.

And this from the Fall River Bridgecam...

If you could get there, I bet it's just beautiful in the park today!

We woke to more snow this morning in Estes and just keep snapping photos. We are going to try to head back east today as the daughter needs to be back at work on Monday. The 2 yr old granddaughter has had a blast in all the snow although she can't move around in it very well. I can honestly say that the pics are great but to actually be here in person to see it you just can't imagine how beautiful it is. We know what Hahn is talking about when the snow falls off the trees, you can hear it coming and then Boom!!! Everyone enjoy.

We were thinking about using handwamers, but the power came back on a while ago so we won't know how well that would have worked.

Looks like it is still snowing on the webcams. Surely it will stop sometime soon.

I showed my wife this photo and she did not know what it was. It's almost an abstract image. This image was captured in Hollowell Park. Those are picnic tables. 04/18/09. As I trudged around in this area, the snow was mostly hip deep. Picnics may be possible by the end of the upcoming week, according to the forecast.
