We're going to start asking that everyone embed photos into your posts when possible, instead of just posting links to them. We realize there are exceptions when our forums software may not accept the url to properly embed/display it within your post. Most times it will work. (See below for information on how to embed photos into posts.)

We're asking this for a few reasons. It provides for less click-thrus for everyone interested in the photos you are so kind to share. In fact, many people simply choose not to follow the link to the picture. Also, we don't have a problem with any of our photographer friends with websites plugging them within the signature area, or within the post itself. If you wish to promote your site, please go ahead and embed the photo and then provide a link to your site as well. We think that's a fair exchange.

If you have a large number of photographs to share, it is acceptable to embed a few and then post links to the rest. We certainly are not going to insist you embed them all. If you have no other outlet to host pics, you may wish to use one of the many free services like Photobucket. In the event such an option is not available to you, we certainly don't want that to stop you from sharing your pictures. Just please make sure you don't open more than one topic per hike/event report.

To embed a photograph, simply copy the url of the actual photo. Open a new topic or reply and click on the "Insert Image" icon. (The words "Insert Image" will pop up when you place the cursor over the correct icon.) Paste the photo's url in the pop-up box and click "Ok." The code to embed your photo will automatically be added to your post.

Thank you for your help with this. If you have any questions about this policy or trouble with embedding photos, just ask. You can also reference the help file on embedding photos here.
