I went up today to check on what turned out to be non-existent snow. One of the volunteers told me it had snowed just a bit last night on the west side. They opened TRR for a short spell today.
The only snow I saw was on the high peaks and then just a dusting. Thatchtop had just a tinge of the white stuff at the very top of the mountain.
I also wanted to get up after yesterday's hike and keep the muscles loosened up so I did a short one. I went backcountry from Bear to north of Dream.
Along the way I has this angle of Bear and, as you can see, most of the aspen are bare:

I gained a bit more from the last picture and then traveled west a bit to get this view:

I was tempted to lie down and take a nap in that spot but a squirrel was making a racket with me there.
It had sprinkled a little but the sun came out again and it felt great with the cool crisp fall air.

Great pics Ed! I especially like the second one. I'm still in New Mexico. We drove up to Silverton today and the colors were amazing! There was more than a dusting of snow on our way up there (in fact, it was still snowing during parts of our trip). Bob was making snowballs and someone even stopped and made a snowman along the side of the road. it was a beautiful day!
