I remember the first time my sister and I went to RMNP,in 1972 - and Estes Park was a very small town, and I remember a jewelery maker right on the main drag that made silver rings and bracelets. It was so different then, from now, but like the others, when we are there, we alway go to EP for a sweatshirt, or other tourist type things, and the waffle cone. Just remembering - thanks for reading

QUOTE (Brent D @ Apr 30 2005, 04:31 PM)
I'm actually going home to Iowa next weekend for nine days to hang with my dad while my mom goes out of town, so I'll have a lot of time to go through all of our old vacation photos from when I was a kid.
Where in Iowa are you from? I grew up in Dubuque.

Hellooooo! Hey Allie, boy do I have many of the same memories!! Wow! Brent, I was going to ask about your Iowa connections. I've lived in Iowa all my life except for college at NWMSU in Mo. Stop by for a beer if you get a chance. Clarinda, Ia. is my location. SW Iowa --- Highway 2 & Highway 71. Come on up Allie and everyone else! You will always be welcome at our ( Mr. and Mrs. Foxfires ) house!

I grew up in Bettendorf, part of the Quad Cities area (Davenport & Bettendorf in Iowa, and Moline & Rock Island in IL), right on the Mississippi. Lived there until I went to California for school, and been in Denver since 91. Iowa was a great place to grow up, no doubt. I really have fond memories. Oh yeah, GO HAWKS!!

Brent
Those are great. It looks so pristine and underdeveloped.
Please keep them coming, especially while Erik's camera is being repaired.

I hadn't gone on the tram since I was much younger (Late 60's-early 70's) until this summer. It is a nice view of Estes Park from up there. It never ceases to amaze that all people will take similar pictures at sites, no matter when they go. I have two photos that match Brent's parents but are from 2004. Here is what the Lake Estes angle looks like.

And this one is towards downtown Estes.
Brent, you're a former Quad Citian!!! It sounds like you got to live my dream and move to Colorado. I lived in the QC's for ~35 years but only managed to move 1 hour toward Colorado to Iowa City. At least the drive to Colorado is now 1 hour less.
I'm sure when you get back to visit your Dad, you'll need one of these t-shirts (as long as you aren't lactose intolerant).

Amazing difference in landscape! It sure is fun to compare those different times. Like I said earlier EPD, I know grouth and change is inevitable, but I still kinda like the old look! EPD, some of our fellow forum members have never experiecned the area when it was so sparce! It,s fun to show them some of the old shots of the younger -- not as crouded Estes! Thanks for the pix EPD!
