I am doing some research about shopping in Lyons for our upcoming trip out there, and looking at stuff online only tells me a limited amount of info. I have completely tapped out the EP market, and although I plan to hit my favorite spots while we are in town (Hiking Hut, MacDonald's Book Shop), I need a change of scenery. My mother in-law suggested a trip to Lyons for antique shops and other unique treasures. Where are the best places to go? I plan to spend a full day there and usually skip lunch when I shop, but might want a smoothie or coffee drink.

You might want to send Mike in for some t-shirts. He just told me how much he enjoys shopping. wink.gif

On the main drag, (?) there's a big, two story antique shop. It's right on the highway.
I found an 1800's Waverley novel in there. I also got a lead cow and an old police car model for my son.
I'm sorry, but I don't remember the name of the place.....but, it's a big log building on the left, coming from Allenspark.

The only "shopping" I've done in Lyons is at Oskar Blues! Not sure if it's the kind of shopping you're looking for, but it's highly recommended to visit.

You are speaking my language, my brutha.

I try to stop there everytime I'm out that way. Good pub food, great beer, great desserts. Cool music as well.

Oskar's back door is 1 1/2 blocks from my place, I get to listen to the music on hot summer nights. Old Chub, I've had a few and mmmmmm.
Lady,
The antique store on Main St. right on the corner by the traffic light downtown has a lot of antiques. It's a stone building and used to be the bank. The Barking Dog is a coffee shop on Main with good coffee, the locals hang out there for coffee in the morning.
One block north of Main are some more businesses and there is the Stone Cup coffee shop with good coffee. The new locals hang out there. There is also Ralston Bros. antique shop just two doors from the Stone Cup and they have an odd selection of antiques. A lot in one small building. The owner passed away about a year ago but I think is wife is carrying on with the shop.
All in all, there is a lot of shops but you should be able to go through them in one days time. There aren't as many antique shops as there used to be years ago though.
There is also an art shop on the same corner as the bank antique shop that has the work of some of the local artists. I like some of the artist's work.
There is also an antique shop at the intersection of hwy 66 and 36 by that traffic light. I've never been in that one.
The stone yard east of the Diamond Shamrock [coming into Lyons] has stone furniture.
If I'm home, Mike could visit me instead of buying a T-Shirt.

Ed,
Thank you for your insider's information. I am looking forward to spending some time in your town, it sounds very cool. I'm sure Mike would much rather be kicking back some beers at your place or Oskar's as opposed to "hunting and gathering" antiques with me. I'm getting so excited for our trip!! thumb.gif

Last year on my way to EP, I stopped in at the Quilting Hands Quilt Shop at 424 Main St. Very friendly staff and lots of great fabric and stuff!
