Right now I've got two options. The first would be to use talkshoe.com as I already do. Talkshoe would allow users to call in and contribute, but would not allow me to play audio from my computer to the listeners or the person being interviewed.....so no voicemail questions would be able to be passed on to the person being interviewed. Talkshoe also allows for chat while the recording is going on. This service is free.
The second is Skype. With Skype I can create a group call that would probably suit a 'round table' style discussion the best. I'm not sure if Skype allows for people to call into a group call....I think I have to initiate all connections from the start of the group call. Skype would allow for me to play voicemail questions and comments. I'm not sure if it allows for chat while the call/recording is happening. With Skype I can get a phone number local to Estes Park so that it would hopefully be more convenient for EP area interviewees to participate. The drawback to this is that this service with Skype would be another $50/year for the service plus the phone number. (Skype to Skype calls are free....but I can't expect others to have microphones hence the reason for a call-in number)
I guess I could use both depending on desired participation per each podcast as well as the style desired for the show....and whether or not everyone could get together for a live show.
Here are the podcast interviews I'm currently working on developing (I've yet to contact some of the following so don't ask them about it before I can get to it
--Colorado Mountain School (what they're about/why people use them/etc)
--Larry Battson - animal topic yet to be determined
--Lisa Foster
--RMNP Ranger - Prescribed Burns
--Big Thompson Flood
--Dr. Ingrid Aguayo, update on Mountain Pine Beetle park damage
--First time visitor planning
--RMNP Wilderness designation
--Jeff Christensen show (thank a ranger theme?)
--Hiking Longs Peak (expert to be determined)
I'm very much open to suggestions for show topics, people to be interviewed, round table style show topics, music suggestions (podsafe music), or any other content ideas you have whether it's segment ideas as well.
Anyway, just wanted to give y'all an update. I've not dropped the podcast. These are just hard to get together due to research, scheduling, etc. Perhaps I could do more frequent podcasts if we did a round table style podcast every other week.
